“Finding Religion” Oriolesman’s photos around Chiang Mai, Thailand

Tuesday, April 19th, 2011

A TripAdvisor™ TripWow slideshow of a travel blog to Chiang Mai, Thailand by TravelPod blogger Oriolesman titled “Finding Religion” Oriolesman’s travel blog entry: “Although nearly 95% of its people are Theravada Buddhists, Thailand has no official national religion. This policy supposedly reflects the county’s spirit of religious tolerance and respect for all faiths. I have another theory, however, to explain the government’s lack of action. Trying to make Buddhism the official religion of Thailand would raise the specter of another deity in this county — a faith as powerful and pervasive as Buddhism itself. That’s right….I’m talking about shopping. Here in Chiang Mai, the Thai people have found religion. And God is carrying a Motorola phone and wearing knock-off Prada pumps. Indeed, Thailand’s national religion may well be shopping. And, for those of you keeping score, its national passion is motorbikes, its national obsession is small dogs, its national sport is smiling, its national pastime is eating, and its national shame is the child sex trade. Confession…I’m not a shopper. But I am awed and overwhelmed by the sheer volume of goods, the variety of wares, and the low, low prices!! And while shopping is popular with tourists, it is unquestionably a local phenomenon. My suspicions were confirmed when I left the Western shopping district and headed to Warorot and Lam Yai markets, just east of the Mae Ping River. Of the thousands and thousands of shoppers, I was

George Galloway kicks off controversial Canadian speaking tour Former British parliamentarian was previously prevented from entering the country for meeting with members of Hamas. By Ruth Sherlock Tags: Canada Israel news. After being banned entry to the country for over a year, George Galloway, the outspoken former British Member of Parliament, is blazing his way across Canada with a speaking tour that addresses everything from freedom of speech to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Galloway is scheduled to speak in 10 cities in 11 days. He kicked off his tour in Toronto on Tuesday, spoke in Montreal on Wednesday, and will make his way through Halifax, Hamilton, Vancouver, Calgary, Yellowknife, Edmonton, Winnipeg and Ottawa. The anti-war activist and maverick politician was due to speak at a public forum in Canada last year, but was barred from the country for his role in shipping five convoys of humanitarian aid to the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip and meeting with officials from Hamas, which is classified as a terrorist organization according to Canadian law. A Federal Court judge has since overturned the ruling. “As I was saying before I was rudely interrupted 18 months ago,” Galloway told a laughing audience as he began his speech at York University in Toronto. Galloway’s ban has raised the profile of his speaking tour. “We probably owe something to Immigration Minister Jason Kenney,” said James Clarke, Spokesperson of the Defend Free Speech Campaign, the chief organizer of

Birkenstocks for Christmas!

Thursday, April 7th, 2011

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year’s celebration with your family and friends!!! I worked on Christmas but I got to see my Aunty and Uncle from Kula, Maui as well as my cousin and his family from Oregon on New Year’s Day. I am also grateful I got to spend time with the rest of my family New Years Day at my Aunty’s in Aina Haina. Before that, my brothers and sister were in search for a Christmas present they could use. We took my parents to Ward Center after a nice brunch at Grand Cafe in Downtown, Honolulu and ventured into Brookstone. Next, we came upon the famous Birkenstock store and — wah-lah! Without a warning, my mom and dad became instant fans! My mom has a collection of sandals, high heels, flats, slip-ons, slippers, boots and even Crocs. My dad, however, has only owned a pair of blue “Surfah” rubber slippers and a pair of white sneakers. So, when he put his foot on a Birkenstock, we couldn’t believe the look on his face! ** Click on the video to see what happened **

Do they make silver (Milano) Birkenstock sandals?

Monday, April 4th, 2011

http://www.shopbirkenstockshoes.com/birkenstock-mens-sandals-silver-leather-milano-p-323.html (Scroll to bottom.)

I question the authenticity of the above sandals.

I don’t want to spend money on shoes that will not hold well. The problem is that I want the particular style of Milano Birkenstocks in silver and the current selections on the official website don’t offer silver Milano.

I thought maybe this silver pair (see above link) was a color offered a few years ago and that’s why it’s sold at a discount. However, this website seems questionable and there are a ton of shoes offered in different colors, which is also questionable.

Do you know if Milano Birkenstocks were ever manufactured in colors other than the traditional brown and black shades?
