A few months ago, one of our cats peed in one of my Birkenstock sandals. My new one. Argh! I have used “Kids & Pets” and another eco-friendly enzyme cleaner–and totally saturated the area. But the Birk is, of course, made of cork. Is there any hope? I’m thinking no, but before I toss it, I thought I’d ask. Thanks in advance.

throw it away….sorry…the stench of cat pee is almost impossible to get out of a material that absorbs things, shuch as birkenstocks.
1. try “UrineOut” from Wal-Mart, Walgreen’s, etc.
2. Take to shoe repair & see what they can do.
You can try a citrus product. Most all of the citrus liquids do pretty well.
I personally, use “Listerine”. that’s right…I said Listerine as in the mouth wash. It is a GREAT deodorizer and disinfectant. I use it on all my cat beds and in their carriers. Also throw some in wash water when I do bed linens. They come out with a really nice, fresh smell.
Slosh it on the damaged spot and let it set 5 minutes or so and then drain it off and let air dry. If it doesn’t do the trick…nothing will.
Good luck …………:)
Try straight white vinegar, it neutralizes the odor.:)
