How to get mint gum out of my Birkenstock?

I was walking across campus and somehow got someone’s gum inside of my Birkenstock. I am quite upset and would like to know how to get it out, these shoes were a birthday gift.

Put it in a ziploc, then stick it in the freezer. When the gum is frozen, pry it off with a utensil.
