The Funky Riders was created at Bar3 in the Sky City casino complex in the December 2004. It was the summer of Birkenstock sandals, short shorts and pxt messaging on expensive cellphones. The boys were nuts deep in a helpless bottle of canadian club and were hell bent on turning their crisp Sir Apirana Ngata into several Lord Rutherfords, when suddenly an idea popped into Lee’s head – “why don’t we create a no frills Nice ‘n Urlich?” and thanks to a texter who suggested we name ourselves ‘The Funky Riders’ as a piss take, the boys have ruled the main room ever since! More rock ‘n roll than the Rolling Stones, more show biz than Frank Sinatra, The Riders have set the bar pretty high with an alcohol fuelled, interactive music explosion fusing their love of house, old school hip-hop, rock and bad ass basslines into an aural fireworks display!
