should I buy birkenstock if I am a vegetarian?

I know they are made out of leather and suede, but I cannot find any that are vegan, I looked at birki’s skorpio brand but the one place that had them (Mooshoes.com) sent me them with a narrow footbed. I sent them back and asked for regular and they didn’t have any. They didn’t understand that they had different widths even though the size 11 they had was in regular. (morons) I have been looking all over the place and I am about to just fold and buy the real birkenstocks out of pure frustration

Here is a sneaker you might feel good about.

And here is a leather free section of mostly Birkis shoes. Does leather free automatically mean vegan friendly?

And another page I found when I looked up vegan shoes:

Just remember that you can only do your best. Finding a good shoe is about your health. So don’t beat yourself up over it if you can’t afford these or find them in your size or whatever. No matter what it is made of, if you buy a good shoe and take good care of it, make it last a good long time, you are doing your part to respect animal life.

Have you even looked at the Birkenstock website or anything? They’ve been making vegan versions of some of the most popular/classic styles for years. And some of the other styles that have vegan straps, but not footbeds can be customized to be vegan for an extra fee. I still have a vegan pair from about 15 years ago that I’ve been meaning to get repaired for the last five years or so because I wore holes in the soles.

There are non-leather sandals available in Regular (wide) width from the Birki’s line. I don’t use the word vegan because they have not been certified through the complete material chain as using no animal products. I know there is a Birkenstock store in Sacramento that can get them for you. “Converting” a pair of Birki’s by removing the suede liner and replacing with synthetic may mean that you aren’t wearing leather but the leather then gets tossed in the trash.
